I've had great success in finding cousins on Facebook so I took my search to Facebook for any of my grandmother's nieces and nephews. Last year I found Joyce, the daughter of my Granduncle Albert Koleber. I sent her a request to be a Facebook friend and sent a private message explaining who I was. But since we weren't Facebook friends, my message went into her "other" inbox and she didn't see it. So she didn't respond to my friend request. Last month she was doing a Google search with her father's name and a link came up to my primary genealogy blog "Grace and Glory". When she realized that I was her cousin she messaged me back and accepted my friend request. We had met as very young children but that was a LONG time ago (mid 1950s)! My cousin Joyce said she'd love to have any photos I have from my grandmother's collection that were of her family. I'm so happy to be able to contribute these precious portraits to their rightful family. I have scanned copies, but she should have the originals of her parents. This is representative of the collection I will mail to her tomorrow.
Many people are critical of Facebook and think it's a waste of time, but it has helped me connect with dozens of cousins. I'm so grateful that I found my cousin Joyce so I can pass these and many other photos of her family on to her, where they belong.
