I researched this Bayless family this morning and verified that Thelma Bayless was indeed the daughter of Roy Bayless Sr. and Ethel (Smith) Bayless, the founder of Bayless Dry Cleaners in 1930. I was quite surprised to find that Anita Bayless Graves, as the daughter of Thelma Bayless Arnold, was the granddaughter of the founder of the Bayless Dry Cleaning business, and niece of Roy Bayless, Jr. the owner of the business I knew in the 1960s.
Now back to the obituary. It tells us that Edward Arnold was the son of Benjamin Harrison Arnold and Rose Ann Rowe. ROWE! I have Rowes in my family who married into my Becker ancestors. So further research this morning shows me that Rose Ann Rowe was the daughter of Matilda J. Mayers and August Rowe. The chart below shows how I'm related to Rose Ann, and of course her granddaughter Anita Lynn Arnold Graves.
Rose Ann Rowe Arnold had a brother Clarence who was married to Elizabeth Yost. Look at the chart below that shows Elizabeth Yost on the left. Look whose name is at the bottom right.
As we review the obituary that started this discussion, we also see the names of Lehning and Keil. I have connections there too. But they can wait for another research day and another blog post. This is enough to digest for now. Connections involving my step-mother (Jones Laundry), my ex-husband (Klein Electric), my maternal grandmother Nannie Becker and my husband Larry Jamison! Pretty cool! Thank you again, dear cousin Kate, for sharing this obituary and photo of Edward Elbert Arnold and opening this research topic for me.
